Visual management for a more effective team
POMEX’s work with a technical expertise department.
A two-hour weekly meeting, long and with little interaction: that is how a technical expertise department followed up its activities.
POMEX replaced this format with a 30-minute visual routine, built with the team.

01. Context and challenge
The department managed its tasks by email and reviewed them every week. Several issues held it back:
- a meeting with no clear structure;
- no overview of the team’s workload;
- communication focused on tasks, with little exchange between colleagues.
02. Our approach
A workshop with the team showed the need to get back to basics: a visual tool, accessible to all, compatible with the existing organisation. POMEX set up a board updated continuously by everyone:
- tasks waiting, in progress, completed and late;
- internal customer requests, priorities, objectives and indicators;
- reminders built into the routine: safety, quality, good practices and new habits.
03. Results
The new routine changed the department’s dynamics:
- a full review of the activity in 30 minutes instead of two hours;
- more exchange and mutual support within the team;
- delays visible earlier, and therefore handled faster;
- a more responsive team for its internal customers.

Conclusion
A well-designed board and a short routine are often enough to make a team more effective: everyone sees the same thing at the same time and knows what to do next.
